Activities in Hemsedal
Hemsedal is a year-round destination. In winter, skiers usually head here, and in summer, on the other hand, enthusiasts of hiking and mountain biking. Whatever time you come here and for whatever purpose, believe us, Hemsedal will always surprise you.
Winter activities
Hemsedal is a real skier’s paradise. Local Ski Centre is one of the largest ski resorts in Norway, with more than 50 slopes, 20 lifts and an elevation drop of 830 meters. If you are an experienced skier, you will love the fact that you can enjoy 20 square kilometers of off-piste terrain, and countless opportunities for ski-touring.
The ski resort is less than three kilometers from the apartments. You can use local ski buses, the stop is by the tourist center. If you want more sunshine, choose Solheisen Ski Resort, which is located on the sunny side of the Grøndalen valley. Cross-country skiers will also fall in love with the Scandinavian Alps. Are you asking why? More than 140 kilometers of trails are prepared for them. And don't forget to stop at Stavkroa, the worlds' best after ski!
Summer activities
As the snow melts in the mountains, new adventures begin. Every hiking lover should get a "Topp20" list. These 20 selected peaks around Hemsedal will offer you the most beautiful views. The peaks are divided according to difficulty, both families with children and experienced hikers will enjoy these trips.
Hiking is not the only activity that you can do in the Scandinavian Alps in the summer. Recently, biking trails have been built in the Ski Center, and we bet all enthusiastic mountain bikers will like it. In addition to the trails, there are also many cycle paths around the town. But don't be afraid to try something new! Did you know that the Hemsila river is probably the best place in Norway for catching trout? And that you can climb Via Ferrata to the top of Vesle Røgjin?
Where to eat
Enjoy staying right in the city center. Several cafes and restaurants are within easy reach. You can order great coffee, hot cocoa, and countless fresh baked cakes and buns directly in one of the buildings where you stay. Elmas Café is not to be missed, but if only, it is located below apartments 1 and 2. Another café, Elgen Café, is just a few steps from Hemsetunet.
In our second building, you will find two restaurants, which are a great choice for dinner. Kjøkken Kroken is an à la carte restaurant, while Kroken Bar & Bistro is a relaxed space serving divine burgers and beers. But there are also other restaurants in the center, such as Peppes Pizza or Hemsedal Café. For a beer or wine, go to the Elgen Bar or Wunderpus.
Where to shop
In addition to two restaurants and a café, you will also find two shops in the buildings of your accommodation. In the first building, right next to the reception, there is Tunet Sport. This is exactly the place you need to visit if you want to rent skis in the winter or adjust/repair your bike in the summer.
In the second building, on the other hand, you will find the Ravn design store. You can get unique accessories for the interior of your apartment or house. Ravn is also a great place to choose gifts for your loved ones.
If you need to buy groceries, Extra is located directly opposite the apartments. Not far from the accommodation is also Spar, Kiwi is located about 5 kilometers from the center of Hemsedal.
